Alister Smith wins the prestigious Hawley Award for Engineering Innovation

Alister was presented with the Hawley Award and a cheque for £5,000 at the Worshipful Company of Engineers’ Annual Awards Dinner, on Tuesday 14 July 2015.

Alister has developed an approach to quantify slope deformation behaviour using acoustic emission monitoring. Acoustic emission monitoring can now, therefore, be used to provide an early warning of landslides through detecting and quantifying accelerations of slope movement.
